Doctor Faustus, less drama more poem

Doctor Faustus, less a drama more a poem

This drama 'Doctor Faustus 'is written by Christopher Marlowe with his precocious mind. He got luckily his birth in 1564 before two months of Shakespeare, the greatest of Shakespeare's predecessors. He was in great difficulties during his childhood, his was fighting to earn livelihood. Marlowe couldn't get proper education from quality institutions because of financial problems.
Apart from all this, he didn't divert his taste and miseries of his life made the king of tragedies. He poured some unbearable plays with depth of human emotion. The variety of characterization and the development of the plot through external events required in a drama are lacking here. Instead we have episodes and internal conflicts presented through alternating modes of repentance, despair, recklessness and panic situation and hopelessness etc. Intensely emotional passages are there in plenty in which we find the dramatist rising to the loftiest heights of the hammock poetry. His genius was more lyrical than dramatic. While his admitting as a dramatist depends largely on his poetic excellence, we could not deny his claim to be the greatest of Shakespeare's predecessors. In this drama, he used his total attention with lyrical sense. Pain, perils, problems and sufferings could be implemented by Marlowe in lyrical taste. He exposed his love experience through emotional words.
A beautiful line that defines more poem less drama "Marriage is but a ceremonial toy,If thou lovest me, think no more of it. She whom thine, eye shall like, thy heart shall have, Be she as chaste as was Penelope, As wise as Saba, or as beautiful As bright as Lucifer before his Fall. "
These lines are the best example to be more lyrical than dramatic. Here, he exposed his highest level of expression. It has been rightly said that even if the dramatist in Marlowe,is forgotten the poet in him will live forever. His name will ever be associated with the development of blank verse, this is the medium best suited for dramatic expression in the form of love expression. His tragedies might be compared to William Shakespeare's tragedies. Both of them presented subordinating beauty of language to effective and dominant lyrics in Blank Verse.
